About Project
This project aims to modernize agricultural education by integrating Virtual Reality (VR) into training for precision pruning of olive trees, focusing on Arbequina, Arbosana, Koroneiki and Turkish local varieties. Objectives include improving participants' practical skills, enhancing digital literacy, and promoting sustainable farming practices.By providing accessible, high-quality training, the project empowers agricultural professionals, and students while fostering innovation and environmental.

Our Motivation
Virtual Reality (VR) Precision Pruning for Olive Trees project stems from the urgent need to address critical challenges in vocational agricultural training and olive cultivation, a vital sector for Mediterranean economies. The project is motivated by the following key factors:
-
Gaps in Agricultural Skills and Training Accessibility: Precision pruning is essential for maintaining the productivity, quality, and health of olive trees. However, the lack of accessible, high-quality training programs, particularly in rural areas, creates significant skills gaps among agricultural professionals and farmers.
-
Promoting Digital Transformation in Vocational Education: The agricultural sector is increasingly adopting digital tools and precision farming techniques. However, many professionals lack the digital literacy needed to integrate these advancements into their practices. By incorporating VR technology into training, this project not only teaches essential agricultural techniques but also equips participants with digital skills, empowering them to adapt to modern farming practices.
-
Supporting Sustainability in Olive Cultivation: Proper pruning techniques optimize the use of resources such as water and nutrients, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices. By teaching these techniques effectively, the project aligns with the European Union’s goals for environmental sustainability and climate resilience in agriculture.
-
Fostering International Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Through partnerships with leading institutions in Türkiye, Spain, and Greece, the project facilitates cross-border exchange of knowledge and best practices in olive cultivation. This collaboration ensures that the training materials and VR modules are scientifically robust, regionally relevant, and applicable across different agricultural contexts.

Farm Trips
OliVR project has clear and measurable objectives to address challenges in vocational agricultural training and align with the priorities of Tackling Low Proficiency in Basic Skills and Improving Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and Training. These objectives include:
-
Enhancing Practical Skills in Olive Cultivation: To teach precision pruning techniques using innovative VR-based training modules.
-
Developing Digital Competence Alongside Technical Skills: To improve digital literacy among agricultural professionals and students by integrating VR technology into training.
-
Promoting Sustainable Agriculture Practices: To foster resource-efficient practices in olive cultivation by teaching pruning techniques that optimize the use of water and nutrients. Strengthening International Collaboration in Agricultural Education; To create a platform for sharing knowledge and best practices among partners from Türkiye, Spain, and Greece.
-
The project aims to these tangible results: Four VR-based interactive modules tailored to Arbequina, Arbosana, Koroneiki and Turkish Local olive varieties. Modules will simulate real-world pruning scenarios, enabling participants to practice techniques repeatedly in a risk-free environment. Supplementary materials, including user guides, videos, and 3D models, designed to support the VR modules. Open-access resources made available on a digital platform for broad dissemination. Two (LTT) activities in Spain and Turkey to train participants in precision pruning techniques. Feedbackbased refinements to ensure the training meets the needs of the target audience. Deployment of VR modules and materials on an open-access digital platform for continuous use by agricultural institutions and professionals.
